Somewhere to eat.

Ate at Sinatras a couple of weeks ago, very nice steak, good service, drinks a little pricey. Ordered some chicken wings to start with which turned up with the main. They were huge so asked for them to be wrapped up to munch on the way home. They were raw in the middle so got deep sixed in the Wallet!

I've always been a fan of Kovalam in Brightlingsea, but haven't been this year. If there's one thing to be gleaned from the two current threads on the subject, it's that hard won reputations can be lost in a jiffy - a speed that's increased by the internet and TripAdvisor etc. Including this forum! A simple change of chef, or a new owner can make or break an establishment in no time at all.

The Kovalam was great in its early years but had declined seriously in recent years. We had a takeaway last night for the first time in ages and it was back to its best. It appears to be under new management so let's hope it wasn't a one-off.

So, on a more positive note: if in Titchmarsh and don't mind a longish walk, go to the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club. Lovely place. If you are brave, skip Titchmarsh and lock into the Walton Basin right next to the club.

Also good, and a similar distance, is the Ship at Kirby le Soken. But book in advance; they get full up!

On an occasion when the Ship was full, we went (on their recommendation) to the Red Lion. Food OK, but absolutely enormous portions - one would have been ample for my wife and I. Perhaps it was just chance, but when we were there everyone except ourselves appeared to be "super-sized"!

Have found somewhere good on the South Coast.

We ventured into Shoreham on Thursday. The lock is very good works 24 hours. Tied up at the Lady Bee and walked ashore into Southwick village. We tried the Cricketters (on the gricket green). Ordered two rare steaks. Well they came out cooked so I spoke to the manager who promptly said she would replace them . Five minutes later we were tucking into delish and vey rare steaks.

Went back to Cinnamon Island on Thursday night with Bilbo, (formerly of the neighbouring parish). He was worried about trying a ruby murry as so many in the UK are now pretty poor. After a couple of biteshe said it was a goid choice.

I popped in there on Thursday for a takeeoutee. My favourite curry house bar none but it does get very busy so best not tell everyone eh?The boss is a nice chap too.

Had a wonderful evening in the Rose at Shotley the other day with Paul. Very affordable food, cooked to order. The landlady prides herself on being "a pub" and not "a restaurant".

Definitely worth a visit if you're in Shotley, not too far of a walk from Shotley marina.

I'd rather the walk to there than suffer in the hands of the Shipwreck at Shotley marina!

All in all for drinks, 2x main course and 2x huge desserts - it came to less than £35 if i remember correctly.

I tried The Lasan chip shop and Indian takeaway in Shotley village last weekend and was very happy with what i had, so much so i had a couple more meals from there this weekend. If coming to Shotley by road, turn right at the Post Office and they are on the right.

If you're in Ipswich you can't do better than The Bistro on the Quay, especially on Tuesday nights, when the 'fixed price' menu is £15 for three courses.

If you have an O2 phone, Pizza Express on the quay is in the O2 Priority £5 pizza offer.

West Mersea Yacht Club has a new chef, who has worked in a smart restaurant in London, and is doing some really excellent food.

Well here goes...... last week we had a meal in the shipwreck!
I would just like to say it was v nice. I had steak and chips, sarah had the mushroom risotto.
Good service and tasty food!

Sorry but i can only report honestly as we found on the day.
We have no connection or interest in the shipwreck.

Regards

Ian
