Somewhere to dry out along side?

Is there anywhere sneaky that a long keel 43 ft might be able to dry out along side a wall, piles or grid on relatively firm ground? 15 tonne.

Not much water around the Pier in the Barry old harbour. Could easily been neeped up.would need to check it out on a tide against your draft.

Yeah I recon I'd go down there on a reasonable spring with a lead line to be totally sure. 2m draft so it would be close but if successful certainly cheaper than a lift.

You will get in to Barry Old Harbour with 2 meters on the top of a spring tide just make sure you have enough to get out again. Its definitely not somewhere to leave a boat unattended.

Couple of pictures of the wall at Barry Old harbour.

As you can see its hard sand below a stone wall.

You need a big tide to get in there and be warned boats have been vandalised there in the past.

Thanks for this. It looks good. Might be room to go along side the steps.

I'd ensure I wasn't staying overnight and if I did would a for a week day to avoid any trouble.

You didn't by any chance manage to take a a note of tidal height at the point the water was at the first step? I may go down there and find that out so I can be assured of timing and enough water.

Had a walk down there this morning at HW.

Predicted height of tide at barry was 11.4 meters according to Admiralty Hydrographic info from Easy Tide.

Alongside the steps was exactly 1.5 meters of water measured with a stick and tape measure. The tide was lapping the top of the 4th step down from the flat landing in the steps. If the water had been lapping the top of the landing the water would have been 2.2 meters deep.

barometric Pressure at Barry was 1012 mb so probably had very little effect.

There is a large ship type bollard next to the steps on top of the wall

Hmm well I'm going to need a good Spring then. Even on March 21st 2015 when a 13m Tide is predicted for Barry then based on that I'll have 3m of water at bang on high.

Not bad but I don't want things to be too tight with a long keel 16t boat.

Thanks for going down to measure!

Cheers Graham,
You saved me a job, i was planning on going down tommorrow to do the same thing.

I am keen to dry my Sabre27 out. It hasn't been out of the water for a while and i would like to inspect things.

With a draft of 1.42m It will be easier for me. Just need a scaffolding board for the fenders and I will be giving it a go. it will have to wait until after neaps next week.

Doesnt look like any shallow bits on way in. Would still go in on rising tide though to be sure.

A long wait, next tide over 11.4m isn't until late January.

I think Ilfracombe or Minehad might be easier. Does anyone know the drying height at the wall in Minehead?
