Solution to the wake problem

hmmmm
To cancel out each other's wake you could try travelling in tandem such that the peak of the front craft's meets the trough of the rear craft thereby cancelling each other (assuming that they are the same distance above and below mean water level). Travelling side by side will only create what is called an interference pattern; which of course you will be well familiar with from X-ray crystallography.
Headphones also reduce the after-effects of wash on a raggie.
To be serious, should we consider wake in open water? The, 'what if someone is carrying a pot of boiling water' surely doesnt apply there, although I would hate to think that I had upset Searush's malt under any circumstances (to return to not-quite-so-serious).

Raggies go so slow at sea, I think without us making them jump about they would be really bored.

Perhaps a couple of laps around them would make them like us even more!

But of course, why didn't I think of that, slaps forehead.

But ruin the chance to share your musical taste with them

To be serious,

No

I love the "watch your wake" comments when bashing through a 1m swell in a F5 don't you! Ah bliss.

When water crystallizes we call it ice ,Alan. Stick THAT in yer malt!

Jokerboating apart,I was going ashore in th dink(Avon) t'other day when a fishing boat passed at speed . As I hit the wake, the nose went up,wind went under, slow motion backflip in force 6ish. I learned to swim.

"I think that the problem is that we pass too far away from them, thus giving the wake time to build. If we were to increase speed and pass at a distance of less than say 2 metres, the wake would not have time to form properly, To further alleviate the problem I calculate that the faster that we pass the better to further throw the wake astern of them?"

Excellent. :D

Now where can i find me a raggie on the Fossditch?

:D Enjoying the thread, but . . .

Hate to drop a serious note in here, but don't forget the fishermen drifting around in little Mobos, they tend to have very low freeboard & narrow beam so are especially susceptible to short steep wash & can't even turn into it.

They are common around the Straits area, often drifting thro narrow channels like the Belan Narrows so you have to go quite near them. Even I have to slow down to 3-4kts or my wash will risk putting a hook thro someone's finger.
