In bringing my boat around to Swansea a few weeks back, we holed up in Falmoth as a f8 blew itself out.

In chatting to a cahp from the Marina he watched me add Soltron to the fuel fill up and told us that they had been having big fuel bug problems with their crane/lift. They tried everything without success but eventually add Soltron. He told us that did the trick and there were no problems now for many months!

Now there are four possible explanations for this:-

1. It was just a pure coiincidence and the little bug fairey appeared one night and took her bugs away.

2. An alien from an advanced civilisation landed and zapped the problem away without anyone knowing.

3. There never was a bug problem and it was all a amass illusion that just cleared up.

4. Soltron works.

:)

OK, before anyone starts, I'm not saying that Soltron doesn't work, but you've missed a few other scenarios.

1) after sitting fairy idle and relatively unused for the winter, with condensation causing water build up, and tank relatively unused, the bug blossomed. Suddenly, it's March, and the boats are all going back in the water, and crane is being used 8 hours a day, and tank refilled and used v.frequently. Bugs don't get chance to grow. Prob solved

2) bundles of different biocides were used, and finally took effect, just at time soltron was added. Coincidentally

3) the source of the fuel was changed.(Supply tank refilled for reason 1 above for eg)

etc, etc.

Not really a scientific proof that Soltron was responsible, just anecdotal and coincidental

Or.......... there was a sudden paradox and the crane that was in the 5th dimension (they never have had bad fuel problems in the 5th dimension) was suddenly swapped for the said crane and nobody noticed. Thus overnight the problem was cured and now the 5th dimension has a problem on their hands as they have not seen the 'bug' before! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

What time is Star Trek on tonight?

The problem lasted a long time with them trying many things - not just the winter but if anything bugs increase with higher temperatures( I think). If the way of getting rid of the bug was to just empty our tanks and refill, life would be much easier. They did drain tanks but that in itself did not work.

"2) bundles of different biocides were used, and finally took effect, just at time soltron was added. Coincidentally"

Wow ... that possible. So is the lottery win I plan on this Saturday! :)

"3) the source of the fuel was changed.(Supply tank refilled for reason 1 above for eg"

It was their own fuel source!

I agree. Now can you explain how I can get that fairy to stop bashing me on the head with her wand?

The evidence is circumstantial rather than direct. However, as the weight of circumstantial evidence and number of favourable reports increases, it surely becomes increasingly difficult to remain sceptical of it (at least as a "bug clearer").

Just to add my own - I do use the stuff, having experienced the bug a few years ago. I don't treat the fuel very regularly, just every now and then, when I remember. Nevertheless, I haven't had further problems and I don't get a lot of smoke on cold start.

funny but I thought the fuel was the problem not the crane...../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I hope you are bringing some of this magic stuff over next weekend to trade for my magic stuff - rum!

I have had just about every problem normal people suffer over the last 2 years and must be due the bug shortly..........

As I've stated many times before, I don't disbelieve it works. I do get wound up by anecdotal stories which 'prove' it works.

As someone who spent many, many years growing bacteria for research, I'm trained to be sceptical unless the proof is rigorous. I also know that minute environmental factors can cause an otherwise flourishing growth of bacteria to die off for no apparent reason (unless you are in a lab ,and can do tests on the growth medium to see what's changed)

Aboyt 3 months ago Falmouth dock went up in flames and there was dramatic TV pics of the crane tumbling into the oggin.

Maybe they don't have the dreaded bug cos now they've got a new crane! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

um just a minute, if they actually drained the tanks, then all bets are off? Cos they wd have had new diesel innem, perhaps without the bug, perhaps with. Much more likely that "their own fuel source" was replenished with nice new diesel, not old gunk that they kept using and draining to no avail. This rather rexplains away items 1, 2 and 3.

I agree i and other have soem vague not-reproducible evidence that soltron might break lurgy things down a bit. But we still have no evidence that things are crap wiithout soltron, then wonderful with it, then back to crap again without and so on. Whereas most additives like toothpaste, washing powder and engine oil do show marked improvements to result with, then without, then with again. Most diesel engines don't use soltron, so it ain't required equipment. And everyone has nicely forgotten that "up to 14% extra power" claim.

You are not being scientific because nowhere did I claim that I ‘proved’ it works!

I simply gave some options not even claiming they were all the options J

The options include fairies which I happen to believe in because I have never had any scientific proof that they do not exist! J

So please try and be a little more scientific in future as all this anecdotal stuff about someone claining things they did not in fact claim gets me wound up! J

They drained the tanks but this did not cure it!

I am claiming nothing nor betting anything.

I ask the Soltron fairy to look after my fuel.

My boat, just bought did 21 knots crusing 25 knots top (SOG) on sea trials.

I bought her added Soltron

On th way back we cruised (SOG) at between 26 and 31 knots -all the way to Falmouth were I bumped into the Soltron fairy again :)

The the same crusing speed all the way to the Swansea excpet for a bit when we dropped to 17 knots for a while as we took huge waves over the top.

THIS IS NOT PROVE THAT SOLTRON WORKS

IT JUST POINTS TO A FEW FAIRIES BEING ABOUT

:)

Just cos you empty the tank or even get it cleaned does not mean the bug is gone! I have had a boat had its tanks pumped out 3 times before they started using Soltron and sinc then they have never experienced contamination.

hmm fairy fairy on the sea which is the best additive for me?/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Sea trials wer surely a quick wham around the eastern solent. Not unusual for a fully warm boat/car anything to be much smoother on full warmup. And the bottom may have shifted some gunk once you stay at higher speed. Or did a survey and lift-out follow?

I (and brendan) simply trying to apply science. We would love it to be "proven" but you (not fairies ) have been (surprisingly, for you) unscientific.

For example, this enzyme needs time to work, as they all do, and as limited success in tests has protested. Yet you filled the tanks, boshed in the soltron, and went off again with same speed. This nearly (not quite) proves that whatever caused the speed improvement, it certainly wasn't the slow-acting and organic-like catchee-monkey soltron.

Nope - I had her taken out and the bottom cleaned over a week before the sea trals. So the hull was if anything cleaner on sea trials.

"I (and brendan) simply trying to apply science. We would love it to be "proven" but you (not fairies ) have been (surprisingly, for you) unscientific. "

Nope I haven't - you and Brecdon have - look at what I have claimed - you are making assumptions. :)

"For example, this enzyme needs time to work, as they all do, and as limited success in tests has protested. Yet you filled the tanks, boshed in the soltron, and went off again with same speed. We totally agree on that one - its why I put Soltron into the fuel the dau I purchased the boat and left it 2 weeks weeks before going to sea. The sea trails were carried out on fuel untreated - the trip back was on fuel treated for 2 weeks - after one week the lack of smoke etc on start up was amazingly different to the un-soltroned fuel.

So all your points are invalid! : )

Its best that I beleive in fairies because that way I can explain all without resorting to science.

Mind you - you have used Soltron and in that case the fairies came again - do they not? :)

no i didn't claim anything of the sort. You claim towards 500 hp improvement. I know from experience that there's little point in continuing when you're in this mood. But I'm pleased you're so pleased with your (not jet, not Cara) new boat.
