Solitaire who is a good mate of mine and a long term sufferer of dementia was yesterday tragically and unavoidably struck by a car............ In tescos car park.

David is a familiar site at Tescos and often uses The car park there to practice his collision regs he was pushing his unladen trolley across a zebra crossing which he generally refers to as a "traffic seperation lane" and was apperently the "stand on vessesl" at the time of the incident.

The "commercial ferry" that struck him was as we understand of a larger size and known to us as a taxi , David did the correct thing at the time and made a mayday call to the coastguard and the" RNLI" ambulance team were sent to his aid.

The "RNLI" ambulance team were on scene in minutes and dealt with the accident very professionally and we were given some advice from them at the time "mate cant you keep your dad in the house, this is the 3rd time this week" !

David has been taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries and is safe and well but keeps mummbling to everyone "I was the stand on vessel" he HAD to stop.

The manager at Tescos has made a statement to the public " Whilst all reasonable care is taken to protect our senior citizens it is inevitable that this would happen sooner or later and we have now taken out a restraining order to prevent a reoccurance".

The uninjured skipper of the ferry (taxi) was led away from the scene shaking and was heard to comment " The crazy old bas_ard just ran at me screaming Im the stand on vessel and blowing a horn 5 times"

fortunatly David is recovering back at the nursing home and is safe and well, so David we your friends wish you a safe recovery and Im sure power skipper will join me shortly with a few pictures to brighten up this story.

Hope the coffin dodger gets well soon, Julie told me about the collision when we met yesterday.

I think Dave has to realise that even though he is a OAP he still has to pay his taxi fare ,he can't keep jumping out at the red lights and not pay.
It was only a matter of time that the Taxi mafia would put a contract on him.
Cheers
Tim

Now, if he had been in his usual little black rubber outfit that he is often seen running about in around Southampton Water then he would have just bounced off the ferry, stand on or not. (The sight of Solitaire in a little rubber outfit is NOT to be missed)

However, let us hope that he will be back at the helm soon, giving a wide berth to anything bigger than him, commercial or knot.

Cheers David

In a later MAIB report

The Tescos manager moved quickly to secure the old chentlemen's trolley and stated that "for someone with his seafaring experience it was good to see that least the old chap was deploying his fenders responsibly "

I can't understand it. David is always so alert and utterly rigourous about keeping a proper lookout, as this picture shows:

Keep bouncing back, David!

Ouch!

Now I have stopped laughing at my good friend's interpretation of yesterday's events in Tesco, I can say that his rendition has taken my mind off my bloody aching leg!!

I think I got to keep a copy of that.

Thanks for the wishes chaps. Roger, I'll remember that! Benjenbav, shows how relaxed I can be in a sea - LOL.

As to any pictures, knowing my colleques and friends as I do, no doubt some will appear!!!!!!

Oh, and reports of my demise are greatly exagerated! But I am suing the bugger!

hope you feel better soon old'un.

I am now going to done hard hat and wait for incoming insults, LOL

Very funny thread, however after talking to David yesterday, I know how serious it was.
I hope the authorities throw the book at the idiot driver.

Very best wishes to you for a speedy recovery from the 3 of us North of the border.

Cheers
