Sognefjord or Hardangerfjord?

Sognefjord. If you can get to Flam and then take the Flam railway up to the top and back down again. Quite amazing, as it cuts into the mountain to make a switch back loop so it loses / gains height within the wall off fiord. When building the tunnel they broke into an underground river with a huge waterfall. When we were there, the train stopped, you got out and could hear the roar and feel the cold needles of water, but couldn't see anything. The glacier back then, mid 1990's was close to the sea, and you could watch it calving, but it has long retreated up to the top.

A lovely fiord.

Can’t compare with the Sognefjord, but I found the Hardangerfjord quite varied and interesting. We spent a week there sailing and hiking. Some places really remote, only to be reached by boat. Parts of it so steep and narrow we lost GPS signal.
When it comes to spectacular scenery it is hard to beat the Lysefjord with the Prejkestolen, the Pulpit, which is a sheer wall 600m high, and the Kjeragsbolt. It is a very busy tourist destination, I’m afraid, but well worth the detour.
