SofF to Corsica and Sardinia - Med Cruise Summer 2014 (lots of pics)

I agree, it is a great thread with excellent pictures. It is this, and our own recent mini adventure which drives me on to get my own boat when I retire. Unfortunately it won't be of the standard that Deleted User and jfm own but it will enable me and SWMBO to have our own little piece of paradise. To drop the hook in a deserted bay is surely one of life's great pleasures. Coupled with meeting up with other like minded souls and swapping details of where to go for the best fish, the best wine or the best calamari.

One day, one day.

EME and Wakeup have a few more pictures so they might post here or in another thread (S, I couldn’t extract any of your pics from the flickr album you sent me a guest pass to)

Great write up and pictures JFM, really brightened my day. I am sorry that the Flikr link didn't work, I'll look into it and get back to you but we took loads of photos with many of Match, a few great shots of Match passing Bonifacio as I remember. Will try and send over a link again. If not I know that Targa50 has them all on a USB stick.

Hi. The flickr linked worked fine in that I could view the pictures. It just wouldn't let me hotlink to them or copy/save them because of privacy settings, so I couldn't use any of them on here. You can post any that you want on here, or EME can if he has them on a stick :-)

BTW, for easy cross reference for anyone reading this here is JTB's story of his 2014 Corsica cruise which overlapped with the cruise in this threadhttp://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?408594-A-week-away-in-Corsica-(pics)&highlight=corsica

It certainly is cheery and it nearly makes up for the cost of keeping the bloody boat, the hassle of things regularly breaking down, the stress of getting to the boat and the earache from the SWMBO. My advice would be to take up golf:D

Great post JFM thanks for taking the time to post it.

Its cheered me up on return to a dreary blighty. :encouragement:

When we chartered a yacht for the day to get married a few weeks ago I said to the South African captain he had a great office. He replied it was bloody expensive one to run!

Golf is a good walk spoiled. My grandad (a fairly wealthy man at the time and left six figures in his will 30 years ago) used to call them ten bob millionaires.

Wow - berthing on the pontoons in Girolata - I bet that was a "bottom clenching" moment.
It really didn't look deep enough when we went there - in our dinghy!!!

Very different when we were there - only us and the other boat traveling with us.

Propriano

As for Propriano - we overnighted on the south side of the bay - and had dinner at one of the best beach bars we have ever visited.
Maybe DJEFABS will remember this - in my dinghy:-

The beach bar can be seen in the distance - great food.
If you haven't used it before - well worth visiting next time.

Mike I remember it very well, great meal in the beach bar. it was probably the best Filet de Saint-Pierre (John Dory) that we had ever eaten. I also seem to remember it was very reasonable. :encouragement::encouragement:

JFM - do you know what type of rib is in this image. It looks like a nice size for SV3 ?

Mick

Thats my RIB - DJEFABS driving
If you are interested, it is a Walker Bay
Here's a thread when I first bought it
http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?214684
Its been as good as gold
Great capacity to carry people
With a 40 on the back it is good for water skiing
ABS plastic hull
Really good - all rounder

Yep, walker bay 310 rib with deluxe console package. Hurricane and I bought them at pretty much the same time 2008 ish. Rated 30hp short shaft, though 40hp works. engine of choice is the Yam 30/40 efi with power trim. Lovely boat, lightweight, well made, looks good and works well. Great choice for phantom 50 imho

Here's mine

Thanks Mike
I notice you are not overly impressed in your earlier thread yet you have kept the rib for a few years. It does look ideal for our use.
I don't need such power as I just want to potter the two of us around the place so any recommendations for a smaller engine package ?

Same question - what engine package would you recommend for pottering the two of us about ?

It would be fine with a 9.9hp for just pottering. You could still fit the luxury gear like steering and console. But there may not be much cost difference between a 9.9 and 20/25 and with 20/25 she would plane quite fast. Thing is, if you want the luxury of power trim/tilt then the smallest engine that gives you that on a short shaft engine is, I think, the Yamaha 30hp (which is a really nice engine, btw. Smooth as). I'm not 100% sure on this PTT thing so you should check, but I think that is the case. PTT is really nice to have because when the thing is on the bathing platform you want the trim neither fully up not fully down and PTT lets you do that, and of course it's nice when you approach shallow water and beaches

I think that the Yamaha 20 can be fitted with a power trim.
I probably gave the wrong impression in that link.
I'm really very pleased with the dinghy and engine.
The only problem after nearly 7 years is that some of the white paintwork has flaked off leaving bare alluminium.
I have kept it out of the water with both the engine and dinghy fully covered though.
And I regularly take the engine cover off and give all the moving parts a good squirt of WD40.
Apart from that only a battery change.

I also fitted a cheap depth sounder and a fixed radio - good for surveying an anchorage etc.

What an excellent mega-pic thread, great use of video amongst the photos. Thanks for the effort in putting all this together. Interesting to read the thread driftings also :)
