I am really looking forward to getting afloat.
Obviously I can sail solo and with SWMBO but would like the option of a crew without serious risk of cv19.
Has anyone thought through social distancing on a yacht?

Lock the crew in the f'c'sle for 14 days? Tow them behind in a dinghy? Send them up the mast?

Anyway you can't take your wife and a crewmember - the crewmember would be interacting with 2 non-family which is against the rules.

I don't think the Raymarine robot crew member has been fully tested yet so you are stuck with each other .

Which reminds me, surprised that no one has developed a social distancing android
Ap for a mobile phone. It could warn you of getting too close to someone. Something like a heat seeking echo sounder.

I don't think social distance on a 'normal size' boat is possible and if you do find elaborate ways to do it they will be more hassle than it's worth. Sorry. :(

Cruise in company, so you get you social contact at a distance?

There’s certainly social distancing on the boat I race on, between the fat cats in the afterguard with their brandy and cigars, and we poor grunts up at the pointy end.

The ony time I did that (years ago) when I was up the pointy end I got so peed off with the mismanagement down the back end I complained loudly and ended up on the helm. Did much better after that!

Yes my yacht club has 2 yachts and runs trips for members.

At the moment we're on the hard and can't see how we can run any trips with the current government guidelines. The recent 50 pager did mention being outdoors significantly reduced the threat and the WHO have said there's a significant reduction if all wear masks.

We're hoping that will allow us to sail.

I really hate to say it but multiple people from different households in a confined space is a very bad idea:
The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them

I hope I'm wrong but I fear that kind of activity is a very long way away.

At the moment definitely, but we've got to learn to live with this.

Once the case numbers are low and track and trace is running - hopefully. The large players like Sunsail will be working on this, and we hope to follow their lead. I wasn't discussing a confined space - we'd be looking at day sailing only, on deck only.
