You see, this is what brings the socialist/anarchist side of me out.

Who gave anyone the right to own a river? You're floating on water to start with!! You're not actually touching anyone's land. Then someone tells you what to do on it!

(Come the revolution etc etc) :)

What a grand day out it was.

We were in the first part of the flotilla but could not see what was going on when the organisers were on the radio saying that some twerp was overtaking everyone and even trying to pass the Calmac ferry that was leading the boats. I seem to recall the organisers being very exasperated and rightly so.

It has intrigued me all week as to who would display such crass and possibly dangerous behaviour.

Anyone know who it was?

Just seen this so sorry its taken so long to report back. I was on the Clyde Cruiser lead boat chartered by the RYA. It was a bloke in his late sixties very fit looking in a canoe. He joined the Flotilla at Erskine Bridge and was weaving in and out, but had no trouble keeping up. The Coastguard boat with its blue lights flashing came thundering down the river and warned him to keep away, but he continually ignored them for about an hour until the police lost their patience and arrested him. As well as the waving spectators one chap decided to drop his trousers and show us his bottom. Again that brought The Coastguard boat racing down, and I think they went shore after him. Difficult to be certain as we were moving away from the incident. All in all a great day out and well organised by the RYA.

So do you follow the IRPCS? Do you expect everyone else to do the same? If so then why don't you think it reasonable to allow control of access to a port.

I've now found the proper legal notice;

http://peelports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/GHD1-Clydeport-No.01-2014-Harbour-Direction.pdf

The NM I linked before simply specifies the detail - the document above is the legal power as a Harbour Direction. Although its actually only the relatively small area that the direction applies to.

I was on one of the last boats in the flotilla, and it sounds like we missed all the fun, but it was a grand day on the water. Nightmare getting berthed in Glasgow tho'.

Many years ago at one of the Solent parades, Diamond Jubilee? got tired dodging all the other boats milling about so went below for a napette, woke up to find the First mate had found an easy spot by tucking himself between the leading Trinity House vessel and Brittania. Nobody said a dickybird.
