Dunno, but it's along time since anyone with any sense tried to use a jib under a spinny, so that tempts me to say mid-80's. OTOH that 'block of flats' cruise ship looks more recent, so maybe Catalina owners have no sense.

Incidentally, in the initial pic, boat nearest the camera has the pole too high, furthest away has the pole too low. Kites should be flown with the the tack and clew at the same height, which means trimming the pole height in a fluky breeze.

I spect their concentration lapsed as they are all preparing to drop their kites, hence rolling out their head sails. .They did all come down the downwind leg without genoas.

But it's like most nationals, you have the hard core racers and those that rarely race other than for the annual social event of the nationals.
