So Soltron is shown not to work!

You are correct in that if the facts are as presented then an independent lab test is the only way forward from a scientific perspective. In pracice PBO do not have enough money to commission that sort of thing so they got lulled by an interested party to conduct the so called testing. This will have obviously been done pretty much FOC!

Now the question is what to do. Most readers will not know about it. However, sometime these stories leak out and that would be damaging. I think their best approach would be just to be honest. If the testing was really performed by a competetitors lab PBO have behaved with heroic naievity.

I don't Clive. I buy it here in the UK from their local dealers, wrap it in about 700 plastic bags because it stinks and shove it in a suitcase although I must admit I have'nt tried this since the new airport security arrangements came into force here

In MBM 2002 nov simular results were found

fuel set 3 photos 3 hours, 3 days, 2 weeks show little change.

soltron --------------------------"----------------------------------

grtmar 71 best
Starbrite bio diesel came out best value when dilution taken into account and 2 week photo clear, so I have used until recently switching to soltron.
That is two tests showing Soltron as less than perfect, I am concerned as I used soltron over this winter, now I wish I had used Bio diesel.

in the summer I ran out of fuel (down to 30L in one tank), I didnt have any fuel blokage problems which I would have expected so was I lucky or was it proof soltron works /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

none of which proves anything, and why would biodiesel make a difference? It's still fuel, and bugs would grow in it just the same. This is just all emotional stuff, nothing scientific at all.

The test of 2002 had jars that treatments were added to and showed clear photos after set times.

You could see the red patches in the jars that disappeared, proof the treatments worked.(some of them).

I have always filled tanks and put bug killer in my tanks over winter to stop bugs growing.
Dont you think any work ?

It has to be kept out of sunlight. I really doubt if you would get that through airport security - IMHO it is banned from luggage.

I got 2 litres out to Greece in the Summer in the suitcase.

visual proof means nothing, you'd still have to do a filtration test to see what is passing through filters. Then you added biofuel to the equation, which means nothing. Biofuel will still grow bugs

Sorry Brendan, I didnt mean to mislead.
When I said Biodeisel I was referring to

Starbrite (Trademark) Biodiesel (a diesel bug killing product).

It tested as good and best value.

I dont use vegetable oil in my tanks.

Well for once brendan and I are in total agreement.

What is lacking is proper, indepdent, scientifically based study.
All PBO have done is make things much worse.

I am frankly deplored at the lack of integrity being demonstrated by the magazine. For me it casts doubt on all reports from that mag.

Going this way we might as well as Sunseeker to test Fairlines, Princess and Sealines and have them promise to do it blind. by the way stigg a sailing boat in because that has to be tested differently and ask them not to notice. Then do not be surprised when Sunseeker wins.

Some biocides are about to be banned for use in boats. They need gloves etc to even handle them yet nothing about this was stated to identify which required very careful handling and which were about to be banned.

I would'nt take it in my hand luggage. Thats asking for trouble but I've taken it in hold luggage at least 3 times but not recently. As a general question what checks do they do on hold luggage now anyway?

Could be that a carrier like DHL/TNT would not accept it as a toxic material, like paint? But I've definitely transported it in hold luggage more than once
