Yep, you're right! I should have written 1996 which I believe is after the "Elite" designation was dropped? In 1996, the double diamond rig was standard and I should have insisted on the rigging plan at the time but in the excitement, I forgot!
For a boat owner, I think a rig/sail plan is just part of the documentation one should have access to, like a wiring diagram, etc. Having the correct dimensions for the various parts of the rig including sail sizes etc., can be quite important. Especially if you are having new sails made. In my case, I am looking to throw out the Z-Spars in-mast furling system and replace it with a fully battened main on batcars.
I have contacted Rob Underwood (or his secretary) at Broadblue but he has not been able to help. The information must be out there somewhere, I would think.
I've got a 1996 Elite with the double diamond rig and, like you, no documentation. Have you tried Z spars or Jeckells? I'm gettig a cruising chute from Jeckells and they have the dimensions of the rig. Also I just changed to single line reefing and Z Spars had all the kit and helpful advice
you should find that sailmakers will have the dimensions for most popular classes on their database. for example i was able to order a set of sonata sails from a small sailmaker in dartmouth without having to give any dimensions. obviously prouts are a lot less common but it's worth calling a few sailmakers to ask.
Was the original rig Z-Spars with in-mast furling and if so, what did you do for a track to accomodate the single line reefing system and where did you get the sail made?
Thanks for the response and the info. I am not actually going to buy any new sails right at the moment but rather, just thinking ahead. I would still like the rigging plan however and I just KNOW one is out there..........
Sorry, didn't make myself clear. The original rig did not have in mast furling- its a double diamond with slab reefing. Because I've got a hardtop I have to leave the cockpit to tuck a reef in the main. So to make it easy I've changed to single line reefing which can all be handled from the cockpit. This requires a modification to the boom.
Z-Spars (Dave) sold me the kit to modify the boom and he was au fait with the Prout rig. They must have all the specs somewhere.
It would be good if the Prout Owners Assoc got back together as there must be huge mount of knowledge out there.
Thanks again for the info. I have been away for a while hence the delay in my response. It was a big mistake opting for the in-mast reefing to begin with and now I dream of getting rid of it and going for a decent single line system running on Batcars! I will get it done eventually but in the mean time, I would still like a copy of the plans! As I said earlier, I have contacted Rob Underwood but he is too involved with his new baby to help. Understandably, I guess. I didn't even know that there ever was a Prout Owners association. Do you have any idea who was involved with that?
What is the hard top you speak of for your boat and where was it made?
