Sniping Trolls

Kwackers. Mate you forget I have met with your delightful visage on too frequent an occasion and that brings truth to the OP's claim that there are trolls onboard.

Why is giving sound advice on here and the associated YBW Forums, being made so difficult with trolls waiting to pounce on every damn word, rather than reading a whole post. Criticism without advice seems to be the norm now.

This disease of criticising individual lines of a thread instead of properly reading what is written is slowly killing this forum. Why would folk want to offer sound advice only to find trolls sniping at every mention of anything.

Much more of it and I for one will be off - permanently, as I note have many other sensible posters the past year or so.

Rant over.

Many of us have come across it and the more one posts the more "empty vessels" one will encounter. One has already responded in this thread in the usual abusive manner.
The balancing consideration is that many will value suggestions and advice offered in this forum and they are probably the silent majority. I have found such useful information in here that it must have saved me hours of time, worry and money.
Anybody can object, argue or try and show how clever they are ( usually not very ) but do they come up with helpful, considered advice based on knowledge or experience and which took time to impart?
Superheat6k falls into a small group on this forum whose advice is top class and valued - by me at least.

Abusive is clearly dependant on which side of the line you stand. This so called troll the OP is on about probably feels he has been abused when the OP took his spat to an open forum instead of perhaps PM. Nobody is in any doubt about the experience or advice the OP has given or provided in the past. However does this excuse his irascibility?
If so I raise your snipe troll by one curmudgeon

I too have read, downloaded and valued the OP's advice in other areas where he is clearly an expert. I hope I'm mistaken but I believe I am the subject of his rant in this thread.

Why? Because I had the timerity to ask him to justify why the questionable (imho) advice he was offering was best practice (in Mcanderson's thread on mains voltage isolation). The earlier discussion had indeed been a little robust but this was before S6k joined in and didn't relate to him personally or to his advice.

If the OP wants to have hissy fit that is his prerogative and good luck with it, but to call someone spineless and a troll in a public forum rather than defend his point or elaborate in calm logical discussion is at worst an attempt to shut the discussion down by bullying (that didn't work, did it?), or at best just plain rude.

...If the OP wants to have hissy fit that is his prerogative and good luck with it...

Whatever happened to that chap who was determined to bodge a gas regulator instead of spending five quid? I haven't heard about any explosions recently.

BTW, you were right about NOT checking electrical isolation with your finger!

Every sympathy. Despite 55 years of dieseling all too many people with their cranium inserted so far up their posterior to see daylight. Recent spat concerning Perkins 4.108 has led me to report post and request my account be deleted twice over the last 4 days has led to nowt, nixt response from the management. Does anyone know of the get out of gaol button in settings here? Or I could post something so obscene it would result in a lifetime ban. Not only does this culture exist on this forum, I believe it resides in most yacht clubs from what I observe in our local establishment.

This Trevor is exactly why for a while I took sometime away from this forum, plus some of the PMs without a please or a thank you when asking for FREE advi

But you have to accept there is a difference between trolling and pointing out someone has just posted bollox.

If, for example, you gave advice that a good way to test if a drive belt is tight is to grab hold of it with the engine running, would it be trolling to take you to task over that?

Well if Paul had been doing that all his working life and still possess two hands then who are we to argue!

I have received a PM from one forumite for which I am grateful. He was not aware that my thread was not the result of just one snipe recently.

My specific first response on the electrical thread concerned did mention proper use of a meter. However, more than one respondent has failed to read my post.

It is also the case that I have seen a plague of responses on various threads recently which are seemingly critical without constructive advice, and by no means just against me, but many other helpful contributors on here - that in my view is sniping.

Not reading a thread post properly and then criticising is IMHO is tantamount to trolling.

As for 'spineless' - not my words.

Thanks for those that have supported me here. I shall be pleased to try to continue to offer advice on AC and Fridge systems, at least whilst the gases they use remain available !

I am a member of an Air Rifle forum, no sniping everyone helpful to other members, yes there is banter but light hearted, even the Scottish chaps are friendly

Ah, my cataracts are never going to get any better, looks like I need to visit Specsavers again, if I can find my way there, lol. PM read and your POV understood about other sour posts. Sorry to have been the final straw, etc.

Pete, if Paul jumped off a cliff would you?;)

Perhaps the management are hoping that you'd cool down and continue to contribute your valuable and sage advice to the forum? Take a deep breath and remember that some people condemn themselves with their silly and ill educated remarks and trolling posts and hopefully most people can tell the difference in quality of advice that is available on here.

If he said it would fix my engines.....definitely:D:D:D

On topic....there are many on here whom I’ve come to respect hugely. Trevor and Paul certainly top of the list. There seem a minority who seek to find fault in advice or comment. These “faults” are usually minor and to those with even a small amount of common sense, are taken in context. I certainly assume....rightly or wrongly...if you’re asking for advice on an issue...you at least have some idea what your doing.

If you want your hand holding with a fully underwritten, researched and health and safety risk assessed explanation....get someone in to do the work.

If not...let’s be respectful to those giving their advice free of charge let’s not forget. No ones forcing anyone to follow it.

Don’t ask to borrow tools though...that upsets a few :)

Twice in the last 7 days I have requested that my registration be removed from this toxic site. However, no communication has been received. Please explain yourself.
