Smev gas hob problem

I have a 4 burner Smev hob using butane gas. The problem is a black soot like coating on the griddle. The flame burns blue - any suggestions? Thanks.

i have the same cooker with no probs.
have you adjusted the air / gas mix.
i run mine on both butane & propane
