Smelly water jerry can

I have found that clear plastic ones smell a bit, but the black type don`t, must be the type of plastic. I do not think that your water will be tainted after a flushing with tap water.

you might be tempted to use hot water to clean it, but don't because heat can release platicisers in the material. These are not Good News for human beans.

Salt and water, if Milton not available, and leave over night.

White and clear containers ex Caravan / Camping dealers are potable water suitable. Black are Grey water and not suitable for Potable water.
Potable water container plastic is same as drinks bottles ... a particular type of HDPE usually.

The way I solve extra water storage on board is to use 5 litre mineral water containers from s/market ... a) you get 5 litres of good water ... b) a suitable container to refill after mineral water used ... c) you can stow easier and more when it's in smaller packages ..... d) darn siite easier to carry than a large job !! Even the wife can carry a couple ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
