Evening all. I've a shiny black GRP hull with some small scratches. Anyone know if I could get a black polish/ wax to fill rather than polishing out?
Small scratches, coloured polish ?

You could use the coloured polish sold for cars.

The scratches would have to very minor indeed for the black car polish to work and then its not brilliant. Black gel coat is very easily matched, you could consider gel coating repair, not that difficult.

Coloured wax polish might hide the scratches briefly, but it won't last long on a boat hull. Black is actually one of the most difficult colours to match, and painting over scratches and the close surounding area is likely to look very messy.
I'd suggest painting the scratches with a black "touch up" paint pot/brush (as supplied by automotive suppliers), then wiping away the excess with a cloth impregnated with thinners. If you use the cloth lightly, this will leave paint only within the scratch, achieving permanently what the coloured polish would manage only temporarily.

Elton is more correct, black gelcoat will show up every tiny imperfection, so trying to repair the gelcoat isn't easy. Ksutton's suggestion of a gelcoat repair is also correct, except that it really needs doing professionally if it's to be reasonably imperceptible. My suggestion of black polish is a non-invasive alternative which can be done by an amateur, which can't make matters worse and might help mask the scratches.

Thanks all. I'll do a bit of everything. Big chips will gelcoat with builder supplied colour matched pot. Then cut with G3, then black T cut, then wax. Don't buy a black Grp hull. Painted wood is so much easier.
