I'm thinking about restoring a jet outboard just to give the Seagull folk a bit of a laugh. At the most it would be for a 12 ft sailing dinghy. One of the advantages (I can think of plenty of disadvantages) is that there is no prop to saw through my nice mahogany rudder...

I know of British Anazani, Warren and the Aus one which I think was called a Vista.

Has anyone any experience of this mechanical masterpiece?

Ok so being two stroke and air cooled they will be noisy but they are at least light!

Interested to hear any first hand experiences, for example, with the intake pointing down do they quickly fill up with weed and gravel???

2 strokes are not banned - engines just have to meet certain emission standards, which small water cooled 2 strokes cannot currently meet. This is an air cooled engine which therefore does not pollute the water with oil - not sure what it does to the air though...

Bit of a question on the 2T bit. Only legal if they conform to EU regs, which I doubt a strimmer motor does. While a ducted prop is more efficient, if will not be so running at engine speed, without a reduction box, like a normal O/B. Then there is the noise....

Certainly a good concept, had not seen that before. I think noise would be my only concern. Wonder if a sound-absorbing cowl would help. If you could buy the leg without the motor it would make an excellent diy electric outboard.
