We are both in our 50's .No kids at home anymore(except when they come back for money) and want to sell our detached house and buy a Flat/Apartment and move up to a larger boat. Has anybody done this and had regrets. We are both still in full time employment so cant just up anchor and go but would just like to have a bit more comfort when crossing the channel with a bit more space. Any comments? Currently have a 27ft Varne.
Cheers

Yes We have done just what you suggest, although we moved to Cowes in the process. After our two girls had gone we rattled around in a large four bedroomed house with a large garden, which got in the way of sailing. My wife saw a job she wanted to do on the Isle of Wight so we sold the big house. I retired and became the boat and house husband. At the time my wife was living in a rented flat and we stayed there whilst we went house hunting. We could not find what we wanted, so when a flat in the block we were renting in came on the market we bought it as a temporary measure. We then took stock and decided what we really wanted was a bigger and better and newer boat so we used the excess cash to buy the boat of our dreams. It cost a lot of money but is weel worth it and although sensible friends say "are you sure that was a good thing to do?" we know it was, After all there is no rehersal, you only get one chance at life and you had best enjoy it whilst you have the chance.
