SLOW DOWN (He screamed)

Don't worry. A little bit of salt spray won't hurt?!!!

Salt spray is without doubt the most serious issue I have and one of the reasons why I have a 30knt flybridge.

When it gets rough female crew (my wife and any guests on board) get anxious and they panic when the waves are perceived as coming over.

Its obvious to any rational person that it is just the tops being blown up but most women arent so rational at the first sign of a wave.

One splash over the top as you exit can have you turning round back to the marina.

I deduce from your comment that you no longer boat with your family on board and tend to have male only pi 55ups whos only concern is getting the beer wet :D

Ahh, now that's your problem, then.

My family have learned over 30 years that going to sea in a boat can mean getting wet. It might be through jumping in for a swim, dipping your bum accidentally over the side tubes of the dinghy, stepping ashore out of the dink into deeper water than you expected, rain, spilling your drink when it's rough, waves splashing over or even wash from the odd thoughtless MoBo speedfreak, but you are much more likely to get wet than when in a hotel bar.

Beating into the wind in a raggie pretty well guarantees oilies are needed.

But when you are sat in a bar enjoying yourself havent you ever wished you were on your boat ?
Get the gin&T out the flybridge cooler and you have the best of both worlds ;)

:D nice try.;)
I invariably have a grin on me mush when on the boat & often a scotch, beer or a glass of wine in my hand, if the conditions are suitable. Wot makes you think I am unhappy? It ain't generally me moaning - teasing, yes, but I don't complain that often, do I?

Well, you do roll your eyes a lot!

Searush is trying really hard to mend his ways, and needs encouragement , he will suffer the odd set back of his own along the way so lets not add to them.

Searush, you are turning a real corner since you admitted your problem and I am sure we can help you through your anti social behaviour.......
what I would like you to do is to go outside now and embrace the first person you see with a big hug, smile say have a nice day and you will feel much better :)

Baa:D

I tried that yesterday & it was a Jehova's Witness lady training her 6 year old daughter to accost strangers with "Creationist" gobbledegook. But I was very polite & thanked the little girl, pointing out that as far as I was concerned the scientific evidence clearly shows how we have developed from animals.

How can people subject their children to such abuse in the name of religion??

So there's a genuine SeaRush Grumble, as requested. :p

Anyway, Daka, are you trying to encourage me to hijack your thread now?

Ive never really got this 'hi jack thread' nonsense, I thought the forum was open to anyone joining in so feel free :)

There's several things that never cease to amaze me about many of Dak's threads...I'll mention just a couple for now.

1. I currently have a 34 foot sailing catamaran and a 34 foot motor boat. I've been messing about in all sorts of boats since the early 1960's. Some have been kept in the Solent. In all those years I have never been involved in the stressful type of situations that Daka regularly finds himself in. eg close encounters in narrow channels, getting mixed up in dinghy racing fleets and so on. He seems to be a trouble magnet.

2. Some of his reasons for not wishing to take avoiding actions (whether to avoid collisions or to avoid wash problems) appear, to me, to be very self-centred eg the cost of his fuel to slow down then speed up again eg his wife being exposed to bit of spray.

Hmmm.....

It's very easily explained (but probably not easily understood if I expalin it).
I come from the east coast (very much from a sailing back ground), it wasnt until I entered the solent under power that the problems started.

When I detail a close quarters situation it is only close quarters compared to my East Coast experience (dont often get with a mile of another boat there).

Iam sure most experienced solent stinkers accept most of the situations I describe as normal.

I only have recollection of one actual collision (sailing boat ran into my port side).

Always willing to assist, let me translate the above; :D

I had a sailing boat but I couldn't cope so I bought a MoBo.

I was based on the E Coast but it was too lumpy, wet & hard to navigate so I moved to Lake Solent where SWMBO could pose on the foredeck.

I haven't actually hit anything, but it is fun to wind people up on YBW.

I hope that's close enough, I used Googlescutt maritime to help. I must also admit that I agree completely, and that's the best feed post I have ever had, thanks DAKA :p:D

Yes very good, are you taking any prescription drugs by any chance :D
Actually I need to hold my hands up here.......

There have been three collisions :o

Pirate boat (Blackbeard) hit me while moored
Sailing boat rammed me again when I was moored
and a sailing boat hit my PORT side so none of them have been my fault :p
