On C53 boat name CHAMPAGNE I like than the idea of a mini forum drinkup if we can dig up enough mercury forumites we could all participate in a pontoon pub crawl.

My SWMBO has been moaning and whining about the same thing. You can get a purpose sprung mattress done but I guess its hellish expensive. However, we did see at the Southampton show a company offering a sort of slatted wooden frame which is supposed to go under a foam mattress to give it more springiness. Sorry but forgotten the name

On a slightly different tack.

We are looking to recover the existing cushions in our boat. SHMBO will run them up on the machine.

Does anyone know of a resonable supplyer of this kind of material. Most high street vendors only appear to stock lightweight cloth and not the kind of upholstry standard kit we are looking for.

Thanks
Dean

I did talk to sealine guy at the show he said that he had not heard of any other complaints but did say that he had once slept overnite on an F36 but wouldnt do it on a worknite because he would feel tired the following day,its obviously assumed by sealine that owners will be to lagered on weekends and holidays to worry about the comfort of the mattress in there 100k plus bedrooms

Can I venture to suggest that the crappy sleep is not due to lack of spring, but to the 'dead' nature of the foam? We had the same thing, and solved it to a large extent with a futon-style mattress topper from Ikea. It cost about £100, is 1.5-2" thick, and can be cut to shape and the casing resewn with a little care. Now feels much more like sleeping on a 'real' matress.

We've got a 360 Statesman and suffered the same problem - rock hard mattress but overcame the problem buy buying a bed (king) size sheet of "ripple foam".
Cost locally in South London is £28.50 which I bought for a fellow Sealine owner last week and generally available from foam shops. All you then need to do is cut to the shape of the bed.
Cheap and cheerful solution - hope this will be of assistance.
Regards and sweet dreams

Dunno where you do your boating, Dean, but you can approach Jeckells of Wroxham in Norforlk and get remnants, usually a good size on a roll, leftovers from when they have done a fit out. This is what we did on our Seamaster.

slatted/sprung frame + proper (latex usually) foam matress is very, very comfy (got one at home). Company called "foam for comfort" & others make latex + cheaper foam matresses to size. I've seen the slatted bases made 2 measure advertised in uk boaty mags & certainly the dutch ones.

How about this?
COMPASS SLEEP SYSTEM http://compass24.com/ Comfort onboard

Go to: Sleeping Comfort

For a good night's sleep and a hygienic, healthy cabin climate, the Compass Sleep System will turn any bunk into a de luxe bed. A flexible batten system enables the hardness to be adjusted over the sleeping area as a whole and allows mattresses to be ventilated from below, eliminating dampness and the resulting mildew and mould. The batten grid can be divided and rolled up at any point and can be stowed under the bunk without difficulty. The Compass system can be adapted to suit any bed shape and is easy to fit. Comprises: 32 spring battens of marine beech laminate, 62 clip stands, 64 end caps and detailed assembly instructions.

Yep. Stage two of MF's refit is completed. It started in the year of our lord 2000. According to the upholstery man. No work can possibly be concidered, unless the boat stands without use for at least. Eerrm!
