What time is slack water in the Corran Narrows?

The Cruising Almanac says it is at HW Oban and LW Oban, but there was definitely still a reasonably strong inflow when I passed through pretty much on HW Oban this summer. It was only a light westerly, so I don't think the wind had made any difference.

Don't forget that they are predictions. Weather affects the timing and height through wind direction, strength and air pressure.

It can be very much affected by heavy rain. There is a huge catchment area feeding both Loch Linnhe and Loch Eil, so much so that at times the flood at Corran doesn't do anything, but the ebb is fantastic, and lasts for much longer than it "should".

But the OP was scunnered by "inflow". Probably caused by evaporation during one of our long hot spells.

That could be it, I don't think it had rained for about 18 hours.

I have to admit that I doubt the accuracy of the published data. According to the crew of a boat that followed us through about 50 minutes later they still had an inward flow. No weather conditions that would make me think they were unusual conditions.

Thanks for the tip on the back eddy.
