Oh I’ve missed the idiots posting on here. Is it sponsored by the Daily Mail now ???
I entered the Hamble this weekend in a massive 50 foot flybridge with twin 12 litre 715hp engines capable of chucking it down the track at over 30 knots.
But I throttled back early so as to join the stream of boats. We’d been at tickover doing 6 knots for probably 5 minutes before we passed the channel 68 6 knot dolphin.
Small ribs we flying past us and as we got closer to Hamble point yachts decided to drop sails and ready themselves in various positions and attitudes to the flow of traffic but no bother. It was a lovely day so chill pills were freely available .
being a longer, sorry massive boat at 6 knots we produce not a ripple. Shorter craft have exceeded their hull speed and produce quite a wake. I noticed that whist overnighting at Warsash. But hey - it’s the Hamble and actually surprisingly quiet for a BH weekend.
leaving the Hamble it was actually a rib that did the flat out Southampton Water downstream handbrake turn into the Hamble move.
One of the great things about bigger boats is their owners are accountable. Easy to track down, usually but not always qualified, people of means and a fixed address should you wish to prosecute and very difficult for them to escape. Try catching a 50 knot anonymous jet ski who doesn’t want to be caught…..
Oh, the big fella’s going to have insurance as well - good luck with the smaller craft.
There’s good & bad across the spectrum. I see it every year. If you don’t like the Hamble moor elsewhere, there’s loads of choice and I guarantee it will be cheaper by probably 30%.
Are those folk demanding only small boats use the Hamble the same people trying to ban paddle boards and sailing dinghies tacking across the river in groups or alone?
So kind of small but not too small….
?
Hey, have a great season ?
