does anyone know what is the best material and way to seal a skin fitting for a speed log to the hull bottom of a fibreglass yatch?iv'e heard to use fibre
glass/mastic silicon sealer, any help?

Silkaflex. There are several versions, check out there website for the specific one.

Many people glass in the tube inside the hull once it is fitted in case the end fails.

Hi

If its a NASA skin fitting dont use Silkaflex as it causes them it crack. Dow Cowing
marine silicone is ideal for sealing this.

I fitted Navman log and depth transducers on our boat. So it must be easy. I cut the holes very slightly over-size,and just sealed them in with sikaflex 291 (I believe)- the non bonding version. One version is for strong non-removeable jointing, the other is the flexible sealant. I think this would be better than a silicon sealant in the underwater environment. Boat hasn't sunk yet.
