This afternoon I have agreed a settlement with the Insurers GJW.

They are making a cash settlement at a very fair figure and paying the recovery costs.
They are not writing her off and will keep the insurance in place at a reduced value until I have completed the repairs.
We will then agree a new value for her and away we go.

I am very pleased with GJW's treatment of this claim.

Sirenia her self is back home and nearly striped out.
We have removed her engine and given it a once over and it seems o.k.
The starter motor is working.
In the next few days we will try to start it.

The electronics seem to have had it.
Nothing wants to fire up.
I have hopes the the C-map chip is o.k. but can't find some one with a plotter that will take it to see if that is the case.
The new Autohelm 1000+ is working but the bottom casing is damaged.
I have a old unit and hope that the case off that will fit.

The plan now is to find the leak by launching her at my local sailing club and then curring it.

A lot of work to get on with now.

My thanks again to all those who turned out to help with the clean up and for all the messages of support from members of the forum.

I will keep you all up to date with progress.

Glad to hear that you have a settlement and a plan now which will allow you to get going.

Not surprising that the electronics don't work, but let's hope you can get that engine to work and that you can find out where she's leaking and get that sorted too.

Looks like you've got your work cut out for a good many months now. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When you are passing Cambridge do drop in with your tape measure.

No rush obviously but it would be good to get that job under way.

Excellent news Clive, if you want me to have a go with the electronics let me know.

Pity they haven't got back to me with a quote yet, maybe I'm too much of a liability /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

More than happy to call in and measure, but I don't think you should be in too much of a rush with your upholstery. It is, after all, a finishing touch.

Being a coward, I didn't look inside Sirenia at Felixstowe Ferry as I thought I might get all tearful, so I don't know how much of the joinery has survived intact. If you have to redo any of that, you might like to make some modifications while you are at it, like make a bunk a bit wider, or longer, or have two locker covers where there used to be just one before. Or make the galley bigger/smaller. Or add some extra storage somewhere.

Obviously, if you do any of the above, you would want your new cushions to be made to fit the new spaces. So the best time for me to measure up and make templates is when you have finalised all the internal layout.

On the other hand, if you don't need/want to make any adjustments, I could start right away. Anyhow, certainly not something you need to be anxious about. You've got enough on your plate as it is. I'll turn up with all my measuring and templating kit and fabric samples just as soon as you're ready.

Hi Clive,

Glad you've had some good news.

Just wondering what the chances are that a water damaged chip could damage a working plotter?

Looked at that.
The plotter should fire up with out a chip in it.
No go eather way /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Roger

I hope to have her back on the water for Easter.

A lot of jobs that where on the to do sometime are now to be done before launch.

How do you get domestic gloss paint and sandtex off GRP?

Bernie

I am more that happy with the layout and have no intention of making changes.

To would be nice to have something to sit on whilst contemplating the next job.
I would also like to get the material and colour sorted.

Erm... I was thinking of the plotter you borrow to test your chip....

OK. August is looking a bit of a write off right now what with Ramsgate Week with Full Circle then Burnham Week with Beyond Reason, but will be happy to come and see you after then, if that's all right? Do you want to PM me with suggested dates and times and your address?

CliveG, it is good to hear of the good service that you have got from your insurers.

I am sure you will have her up and running and mostly likely better than she was before in no time.

I am not familiar with plotters and there map cards, but if they are anything like normal in car sat nav cards, and memory sticks in general you might be ok.

Brendan of the upper forum may be able to give some helping advice.

clive,im glad to hear your news,im really happy for you.

As for removing the paint, chemical stripper is the least labour demanding.

If you can wait untill Late October,im willing to come down and do a professional paint job on your hull as i missed the clean up,i can always blow the hull over.

So now you can "pimp" your boat

Matt

That is a most kind offer.
At some stage I intend to do the deck and cabin top followed by the topsides.
I have access to a large workshop at weekends with air supply etc.
Not sure how long the prep will take but the end of October looks good.

Talk soon.

Clive
