The interior of my boat is just the bare GRP. Its a bit shabby and the existing paint is flaking. I plan to remove the flaking paint, rub it down and repaint it. The question is what kind of paint should I use? Is any normal "house paint" ok, or is there some specific type that is more suited to use on GRP?

bilge paint'll be the stuff you're after, i get mine from screwfix (now i'm gonna get it).

i have used polyuerathane gloss before, but as you say it peels, so good prep is vital. also be vary of using too glossy coatings as they promote condensation, whereas more matt ones don't seem to be as bad.

good luck, steve.

I ASSUME FROM YOUR POST THAT YOU WILL SEE THE GRP WHEN REPAINTED,IF ITS REALY BAD YOU WILL NEED A PRIMER FIRST THEN USE INTERNATIONAL TOPLAC PAINT,THE FINISH IS GOOD AND LEAVE IT ABOUT A WEEK TO GO REALY HARD.
I BRUSH IT ON THEN VERY LIGHTLY GO OVER IT WITH THE BRUSH UNTIL ITS SMOOTH WITH NO BRUSH MARKS SHOWING.
BUT LIKE ALL PAINTWORK THE FINISH WILL BE AS GOOD AS THE PREPERATION BEFORE.
IF IT IS THE BILGES YOU WANT TO CLEAN UP THEN YOU CAN GET SPECIAL BILGE PAINT OR AS OTHER POSTS SUGGEST USE A GOOD HOUSHOLD GLOSS.
PS NO I DO NOT WORK FOR INTERNATIONAL PAINTS! JUST LEARNT THE HARD WAY FROM EXPERIANCE

HAVE A NICE DAY!

Try Sadolin interior/exterior paint.I purchased a Bradwell 18 about 6 years ago, the interior had a mat finish paint that was flaking badly. I removed the loose stuff and painted over with Sadolin and it still looks go as new.
