Anyone got one of the above handhelds? I've had mine only a few months and a fully charged battery pack only lasts a number of hours (with no transmitting).

Is this standard?? Surely it defeats the purpose of a handheld!

Hi,

I have one and the battery seems to last a reasonable time. I haven't measured it but it seems pretty good.

I've just done some measurements

The standby current is around 80mA and can increase up to 0.2A at high volume settings.
The Low transmit current is around 0.4A
The High transmit current is around 0.8A

The Ni-MH battery pack is rated at 9.6v 550mAH

I would guess that a fully charged battery should last around 5 to 6 hours (at low volume setting), may be only 2 to 3 hours at high volume / low squelch settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the sums, professor. I guess mine maybe lasts around those times.. maybe I'm used to the mobile phone generation where a charge lasts for days!

I must remember to keep it switch it off until I actually jump over the side!

Thanks.

These figures are in line with what we've found with ours - on the other hand the Icom handheld we have seems to last forever... relatively speaking.
