....but is there a definitive list anywhere that explains what Volvo engine identifiers actually mean. I think I'm happy with the Ts, As, Ms and Ds but what about the numbers? How do I find out how many cylinders and rated power output please.

You could always count the injectors. Then see if it goes brum, brum, brum or brum, brum, brum!!

Nothing whatsoever to do with this thread, but cruising down the Thames at the weeken I perchanced to pass a Motor Vessel called 'Pheran' heading in to moor at the TMYC just above Hampton Court bridge. Could it have been your prvious boat?

Hi Chris.
I guess it's all yours now?

Never really thought about it, but could it refer to "litres"?
ie. TMD 30, is turbo marine diesel - 3.0 litres.
TAMD 61 A, turbo aftercooled marine diesel 6.1 litres

Sounds possible?
I'm sure someone knows for sure.

Boatone - my previous boat was a Birchwood Viceroy, basically a 33 with a flybridge. New owner was going to moor either at Kingston or Hampton so I guess it must be the one you saw. Going to be renamed K'sera. The new Pheran is a Valk Super Falcon 45 but there shouldn't be any confusion as I plan to keep it in Holland.

miket - not quite, we're off to Holland early on Thursday morning, final sea-trial on Friday and I then sign the very formal Protocol of Delivery. All this on a second-hand (sorry, previously enjoyed) boat.
Nice try about the engines BUT a TAMD30A is 2.4 litres. Next!!

Thanks Tony, very interesting. I was interested in max.power@revs for the TAMD41A. Can I assume that it is the same as the AQ/AD derivatives ie 200hp@3800/3900rpm? Same engine with different back-end?
