Sillette Sonic Type 2 Catameran Legs

Silette leg

I have one on my 1996 Prout 37E - doesn't make much noise other than 'whirr whirr whirr'
'Whir whir whir clunk' would be a bad noise!

I believe they are indeed quieter as they have spiral bevel gears rather than straight bet don't expect them to be quiet. There is still a whine.

Sillette Sonic Type 2 Catamaran Legs

I replaced the 1990 Sonic leg on my Prout Event 2 years ago as the whine and rumble became unbearable. The new Type 2 leg with its bevel cut gears is very quiet, almost silent, the difference is amazing. At the same time I replaced the Yanmar 3GM with a Sole M-33 engine. This has turned out to be a brilliant combination of engine and transmission. Both the Sillette people and the Sole importers, Engines Plus, were very helpful.

That's true, but you could try.

How long do you find the input seal lasts? I've found ours goes about every 2/3 years regardless of engine hours.
