I am in Canada and con spidering the purchase of a Sigma 292 Could someone tell me what the hull and deck are made from? Are these well respected sea worthy boats in the UK ? Any significant issues? Many thanks.

Nothing wrong with them, basically a Sigma 33 that shrunk in the wash. Consequently they cost not much less and didn't really sell, not much to choose between the two these days and there are a lot more 33s out there allowing you to be more fussy. Only if you really need to avoid the extra 4 feet to fit in a mooring. Marine Projects didn't go overboard with build quality, so there can be problems on hard used examples but nothing that is likely to escape the notice of a decent surveyor.

One difference between the 33 and the 292 is that most if not all 33's will likely have had a hard life being thrashed as a one design cruiser/racer.

292 likely to have had a quiet life. Marine Projects built the Sigma range as well as Moodys and tended to skip difficult bits like chainplates and baby stays. Check them carefully.

I have owned Sigmas and Moodys for a total of 21 years, our Sigma 38 for 12, The 33OOD did have a hard life but survived it well, I do not recognize your description of Marine Projects work, mebbe I was just lucky three times?

My comment should not be seen as a criticism, I like sailing on 33s, racing and cruising; just that they were built to a price point and it shows in some well-identified areas(all well known and solutions outlined by the S33 owners assoc), especially after 40 years. They aren't Hallberg Rassys.

Are the hulls solid fibreglass and the decks cored?

Can't comment on other Marine Project Moody 31s and 38s ;) but 346s do not have cored side decks which may be the same construction for the 292.
