Really fancy doing a cruise in co next year (got 1 in mind) but H can't come due to work commitments and I'm a tad wary/nervous about being the only single bod on it and not really knowing anybody. I won't be helming alone as one of the organizers (i know we'll have a laugh) has offered to join me on my boat. So wanna do it but...:eek:

Depends if the boat is just your thing, or joint enterprise for the two of you. If it's the latter, I'd wait until you can both get on the cruise. Seems a bit of shame for H to miss out on the first one.

Cheers

Providing your husband doesn't mind I say do it! otherwise you could end up regretting it. I wouldn't think of it as not knowing anybody, I think of it as an opportunity to get to meet new people.

H is encouraging me to do it (hmmm why???) and doesn't want me to miss out just coz he can't come this time round. He does a lot of travel abroad which I can't go on with him so I think he feels it's my turn...bless 'im. :)
Thanx for your thoughts chaps.

Bang on Kwackers. Just do it. This sounds like a perfect excuse for a girly boat with a few of your friends to terrorise the others and liven up the pontoon parties.

Just do it. Cruises in company are great fun and an excellent way to learn about new places and new experiences. IMHO, MBM do the best ones. Just one word of warning though. We went on a MBM cruise many years ago and there was a single lady boater with 2 of the organiser's (male) helpers on board. It ended in tears because those male helpers didn't lift a finger on the boat and expected to be waited on hand and foot by the lady skipper. I would suggest you take 1 or 2 of your female friends along for company rather than some layabout organiser:)

I did my first Cruise in company in 2006 and met new like minded friends. I have now cruised with the same gang every year since, sometimes twice a year.

Mind you they are Irish and boy do they know how to enjoy themselves :)

As K says "do it" take loads of photos and maybe the following year hubby will join in the fun.

Treat it as a chance to learn more about the boat as well as meeting new friends. I agree with the "girly friends" bit, there will be plenty of macho males around who will want to demonstrate their boaty knowledge to you anyway. :D

What (if anything) does H normally do that you need to learn? On my boat L travels as a passenger but still does most of the domestics - her choice, but I would like her to be more able to handle the boat rather than just helming/ picking up bouys, sorting fenders etc. It's about moving out of the comfort zone a bit - maybe that's why she doesn't want me cooking?

That must have been before my time

Just like to say that MBM do not put staff on participant boats now and haven't done for a number of years.

My recommendation would be to take some girly friends. You'll have a good laugh and a boat full of ladies won't be short of a helping hand if it's needed :D

We share it all but generally he is happier doing the ropes etc and relaxing while I drive which suits me too. He does the engine checks etc so I'll need to get into the habit of doing that a bit more. We both love it equally tbh :)

I agree with the general consensus. Make up a Girly crew - you'll have a ball. And if you need help I am sure there will be no shortage of chivalrous geezers to help ladies in need.

Just go ahead and book it.

It's great fun in good company and all parties work together.

I cannot recommend these cruises high enough.

Only problem is that HWMBO will be grumpy after your return as he will realise just how much fun he has missed.

Next time he will put off work and join you on the cruise.

Personally, the horror of having to spend several days in a situation where I was the only one not paired off would be enough to put me off.

But that does appear to be a minority view and may also go a long way to explain why I could hold a meeting of my close friends in a phone box. :D

Bless you. That made me smile. I hope you have a lovely time if you do decide to do the cruise in company. If it's the one I think it might be I think you will.
