Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all those who replied to my previous posting.

I have now managed to get my shortlist down from 64 to 8 although I am still open to suggestions.

My budget is very limited at the moment (<£5000)

I would like to get a boat with either a bilge keel or lifting keel as it needs to take to the ground. I am 6'2" so I don't think I am going to find too many boats in my price range with enough headroom for me to stand comfortably. If anybody knows different please, please, let me know !

My shortlist is :-

1. Alpha 25 - difficult to find so I have been told
2. Anderson 22
3. Dufour T7 - probably going to be too expensive but does look good
4. Invader 22
5. Leisure 23
6. Snapdragon 24
7. Snapdragon 670
8. Snapdragon 747

Any information that would help me make up my mind would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I am 6' 2" and own a Cox 21 (sailing not motor boat). I cannot stand up straight but have full sitting headroom and can stand up straight enough to pull up trousers! Headroom is about 5'.

The Cox is a local design made in Brightlingsea, Essex in the 70's and 80's. Mine is fin keel but they were made with bilge keels too.

Not many around but worth a look as a good seaboat. This spring I crossed from Ramsgate to Dunkerque in a force 4 gusting 5 on a close reach and was dry most of the way!

Good hunting.

How about a Westerly Pageant? - smaller than a Centaur but with a similar layout and with standing headroom, but probably not 6' 2" - you would have to check; also may be slightly out of your price range, but could probably pick up a cheap one that needs some TLC.

I'd rather be sailing... :)

If you are looking for enough standing headroom then try a Virgo Voyager 23' usually in bilge/fin or triple keel and around £5,000 - £7,500. Good little boats with 5 berth accommodation, heads, chart table galley and generally with a single cylinder diesel.

Well have you bought one yet? what did you get?

Mine is an Invader 22, very good boat, convenient like a proper little ship with 5 berths and a proper toilet compartment, cooker, tv. Well balanced and easy to sail. Make sure you get an inboard. Mine has a volvo petrol saildrive which is fine but I would prefer a diesel with a shaft. I can nearly stand up and I am over 6'1", but I can't stand comfortably at the sink for long so my wife does the washing up.

Invaders happened when the builders bought the moulds that were previously Snapdragon 670, so they are the same except snapdragons are older!

Don't forget the Limbo 6.6! I'd strongly recommend one.

Similar to the Anderson 22, but a bit more sail area. Try the website shown below for a few pictures.

Plenty of sitting headroom, and the quarter berths are over 7 feet long. Also plenty of performance.
