Wasn't it 3 men in a boat?? They 'rowed' down the Thames, then sailed GR-J's classic boat to the Solent and did the 'Round the Island'. Yes some ( as a small boat sailor) was toe curling journalism / media ********, but quite entertaining. a skipper pretending to know not. running aground in the Thames 'we're all going to die' - with a centreboard??? but I found it 'watchable' amusing to see those who know not, with a skipper who implied he knew not.
Remember, if I have the right programme, it was filmed for television for those who do not understand. intended to portray 'us' as incompetents, navigating the UK with an AA road atlas and provide entertainment. It Did.

You are conflating two styles of TV film by GR-J. The "for-laughs" toe-curling one, two-up with comedy partner Smith. The other three-men-in-a-boat style with Dara O'Briain and Rory McGrath somehow had multiple episodes.

Richard, many thanks indeed, I got it in the end with your good guidance.
It just says so much about those of us in love with 'yachting'.
Thanks

Hmm no problem, I thought I didn't recognise the script, I haven't seen the other, time for inspector Google - or whoever.

I didn't download that vid.

I'm sure it's me given how successful they are, but I just find those two sooooo... depressing.

Not even sure I know why.

That was perfect, thanks for the link. I think all us older skippers should watch it regularly as a warning of what we can become! It's a little too accurate for comfort ...
Suitcases, unsuitable footwear, nice early start to beat the tide, couldn't give a stuff about the food, DON'T LEAN ON THE STANCHIONS. Yep that's me!

Thanks for finding it, I hadn't seen it for few years.

I think it's pretty wise viewing for anyone considering a small, old cruiser...never go afloat without a buoyant sense of humour.

Actually, I reckon the set which represents the cabin, is roomier than aboard most sub-twenty-five footers.

I daresay someone will now say "it's a real Eventide", or even "that was my Eventide".

The killer line must be when the guest says, about the skipper's wife: "don't you know, how much she hates coming on this tub?"

Makes me think about getting a motorboat. Full headroom, and nothing on board that ever requires anything remotely like work. ?

The "Three Men In A Boat" series showed Griff Rhys-Jones in his true light I think - a recovered drinker, and a thoroughly competent yachtsman, persistently driven to the verge of fury by his drunken, cheerful novice passengers.

Very funny, but I feel for his frustration.

Ha I enjoyed that greatly, not sure if I should watch it with the wife later or not!?
I think my dear Navigator will find it most amusing. She selected our campervan - and a good choice she made too, but says the current boat feels more like a home. She selected the boat too in many ways, in order to improve her comfort and indeed the saloon is snug.

Mindyou someone who goes Scottish bothying in winter might have different sensitivities to the average woman
