Shore Power - Is this safe?

So, what cable do you think your ring main was wired with ?

I know exactly as I bought the stuff ! Not THINK ...

The cable was sized to the job regardless of ring main. At no time was any cable used that was less than any combination of sockets / lights together in any form to ensure safe as per designed load or breaker ...

I have no interest in what you may use in your installations ... I work in an environment that makes one extremely sensitive to safety issues ... which has instilled in me - I make sure cables, setups I have in house, boat etc. are more than capable of the load applied.

You seem to know all the answers ... so guess !!

Give you a clue :

House I bought years ago in Fareham UK from an old girl. She had radial wiring of the old type cables. She'd had a small fire and her daughter - because they agreed to sell with the faults declared, had put stickers in the rooms reminding the old girl to switch off gear before going to next etc.
First job was of course to make house safe to live in and I brought in local prof electricians to sort. At that time - I was under impression and actually I still thought Ring Main was the accepted standard for UK - the electrician asked if I wanted buried or surface wiring. I opted for buried wiring, no way was I going to live with surface conduits and wiring ..
When they opened up the walls - there were a number of other 'burns' had occurred from the overloaded old radial wiring ... luckily the walls had prevented spread.
We discussed of course how many sockets ... where etc. On HIS advice and which I still today believe is good advice ... he and I agreed that all ring main cabling would be heavy duty to same as would be used for radial. If radial called for 32A ... then we used 32A, even though it was greater than needed. For every socket - we also used more than rated.

So the question is not so easy to state in actual numbers as you want. Each application had its own rating - which we exceeded in every case.

I have never forgotten seeing those burn areas in those walls ...

I'll guess you don't actually know.

For the benefit of anyone reading this (and who is still awake, eyes not glazed over), most UK houses are wired with 2.5mm twin and earth. This cable, depending on the make and where it's installed will be rated to carry 17-20a.

He's a one in'e .... talk about persistent !! Like that peksy fly that won't buzz off when having a bbq !!

He cannot read ... I didn't talk about what OTHER people have ... I know what I did and I already stated clearly ...

But he wants to make a point .... zzzzzzzzzzz !!

I'm an electrician, PR is absolutely correct - as ever. He would also seem to have the patience of a Saint and deserves a medal for his expert advice given FOC.
