During holidays I noticed strange charging voltage on my batteries.
Connected to shore power for several days my Victron BMV battery monitor gave a warning signal my charging voltage was 16.1 Volt while my battery was almost 100% full. Disconnected from main power and reconnected later on to see if this happens again.
For a day all was normal and suddenly the charging voltage increased to 15.2 Voltage again.

Wondering if someone has an explanation these charging voltages appeared with full batteries.
With empty patteries I can imaging this might happen though not in case the batteries are full.

housing batties are multi purpose and separated from starting battery

all explanations.are welcome

Different battery types needs subtly different charging regimes for different states of charge. Does the charger routine match the type pf battery ?

does equalizing also happens in frequent used batteries?
How to differentiate the charger is equalizing or overloading your batteries? is there a way to control this?

An older Xentrec battery charger....similar to the TBC type
need to verify once back on boat

Older chargers don't tend to have an equalise function, but even if they did, it should not do it as regular as you describe. I'd consider replacing it with a nice new Victron smart charger with Bluetooth.

thanks for feedback, looks like the relais inside the charger sticks sometimes and leading to higher voltage.
charger needs replacement since its a closed system
