Ship loading pics (Geeky!)

Yes, it's personal choice whether to balance it on the other side with a dummy or not. I haven't, and don't feel the need to. I think it looks fine as it is, and I sort of don't like the idea of having something "fake" on my boat.

Replying to several here...

Mapis, I dont think the dome under the radar works aesthetically. It would be at your chest height, right in yer face on the flybr

Nick, yes they used a diver to position the slings. And your bimini is there on the deck in front of the flybr helm, wrapped in bubble wrap. Hard to see in the pic

mjf, yes they fill the holds on the ship with "base cargo" before loading yachts. I've no idea what. Its route was Holland(base cargo)-Sweden(base cargo) -Poland (Galeon Yacht)-Southampton (yachts). The last yacht to unload will be in Genoa, so I guess that after that they take the base cargo somewhere to unload

You sure Splosh? Got any pictures? I would have said Sevenstar always carry them as deck cargo. I didn't think they had a ship big enough to place a T60 in the hold, and it would be very space inefficient. www.sevenstar.nl

Yes, as sure as the pictures show.

The boat at that time being last April was the T50, but the hold will take a T60 and larger.

The sevenstar ship was the "Amstelgracht" which usualy does the Med / U/K run.

The holds are quite large, and in fact the hold was FULL of boats. It was a great experience in dealing with them direct and a very professional dedicated company.

Ah, thanks for that Splosh, I stand corrected, didn't know all that. Yup, the boat would be nicely protected down there in the hold. Any height restrictions - looks like you took your radar off?

There were definitely no boats in the old on my ship - they said the base cargo was paper!

Thanks

fwiw I spent ages (well, a few minutes) last night staring at your sat dome and wondering what was wrong with it - it looks like it's in the best place to me - until I went back and found Mapis' original comment about your being able to wire it directly to the satellite with only a bit more cable.

I would either keep it as you have it or else go for a left field option and make a virtue of being asymmetric.

Yup, I think it's fine as it is. I'm just going to leave it for a bit!

Thats interesting - maybe it depends on the routing as I would have thought if these vessels only carry boats as cargo at the rate pro-rated to your figure then the Owner would be bust very quickly. The underdeck cargo has to be frieghted on cubics used so if priced commercially would be too expensive to carry IMHO.

Maybe I am wrong....

I dont know anything about ship economics but I agree your point. There is much wasted cubics of a boat in a hold, whereas on deck the area is used efficiently. There are some merchant navy folks on here, maybe they'll know. FWIW the fare for my boat to Genoa is €22k, so the ship is making €200k+ from yachts once her deck is full, plus the fees for whatever base cargo is in the holds
