Shetlands were / are pretty good and tough little boats, The answer is yes indeed.

Having just seen one on b&O, I thought you meant a different model, nice looking boat for angling.

We always used displacement boats, for spending a long time at anchor do you really want to be in a semi or planing hull? I do get the idea of getting to your fishing ground and back between any weather, I would rather have the boat that suited the purpose for me.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Where are you by the way..

Try the Shetland owners assocciation, they are brilliant, I was a member before I started sailing, as I had a Shetland Black Hawk.
I wouldent recommend going to sea in anything more than a force 2-3 in any of the smaller Shetlands, or similar sized plane hull boats, I have had a few unkindly experiences in the inner firth of Clyde.
Good luck.

I have used one and my Brother uses one regularly for fishing . I currently have an Oldenburg 17 Day Cab ( anybody know of any owners clubs ? ) in use in the Bristol Channel . Slightly more sporty but I am confident in it up to F4-5 . Maybe because it has more freeboard or we do not get the full force of the Atlantic like Clyde_Wanderer .

I have a planing hull which is not unlike a Shetland in that it has tunnels and sponsons outboard. It is very stable indeed at anchor, and I keep it on a swinging mooring where it is very stable. More stable than my B-in-Law's Langstone Fisherman of the same LOA

great little boats - nice balance of cuddy and cockpit overall but many find the cockpit a little on the small size for fishing. 2 guys no problem though.

most are remarkably 'solid' having been built in the era of thicker grp is stronger!
