could anyone point me in the direction to a dedicated shakespeare speedboat site.i have just inherited a ??? mini sportsman???? and would like to try to restore it so any help appreciated many thanks
Dont know about a site, but when I was a lad, oh maybe 30 odds years past, I used to go into the library and often ended up reading through a book by the designer of Shakespear boats. Might be my memory playing tricks, but I think he was William Shakespear. (Hm this is starting to look like an April fools thing). He also raced the boats. Lots of good pickys and stuff. Doubt if its much relevent to your boat but just brought back an old memory.
We had a 40' Gibbs TSDY (Maid of the Mist) in the early 70's based at Tewkesbury on the river Avon. IIRC it was William Shakespear and he was based in the town. He used to race in the ON class. Every now and again the howl of a powerful outboard could be heard on the river. I suspect it might just have been a tad over the limit. I believe he perished as a result of a racing accident soon after.
