I’ve got a Yanmar 1GM10 engine which I intend to service this winter. Can anybody tell me where is the sacrificial anode is? And, have you got any good tips to help me in this endeavour?

Apologies, I've posted this on Scuttlebutt as well.

On the 1GM10 the anode is attached to an oval plate which in turn is secured into the engine block on the port side about half way down the block by by two 10mm nuts/studs into the block. You will find it easier if you remove the alternator, if like me you don't have good access to the port side of the engine. In any case you should slacken off the alternator belt when winterising. My anode seems to last about two seasons. Don't forget to change the oil and filter and run a mix of fresh water and antifreeze through.
