Hi Folks,

I am looking into servicing my Selden gas kicker. Having found out the price of replacement gas struts I was wondering if any of you have tried servicing the strut - or found a better priced source of them?

Cheers,

John

Gas springs are available, significantly cheaper than Selden. eg www.gasstruts.co.uk. You might need to do a bit of adaptation though. When mine failed, I didn't find a very close match and I stumped up the Selden price for speed. The failure was due to severe corrosion of the body, so re-gassing wasn't an option. If you do get an alternative, try to go for stainless. Selden cleverly put the spring right at the bottom of the tube, where it probably sits in water much of the time. I now take mine off for the winter lay-up, even if the mast and boom stay in place.

I use Industrial gas springs. (Go Google). Last one I bought was £32. -2004.
100mm stroke 2500 Newtons . Slightly longer than the Seldon replacement but higher spec. I cut 2" off the alum. distance piece to correct for adjustment.
Hope this helps.
