Separating Water and Petrol

Sorry for the barrage of questions but I've got a bit of a project on the go. Hopefully this should be the last for a little while.

See below but I have water in my fuel tank. I've disconnected the fuel tank and can easily empty the contents, my question is how do I separate the water and the petrol.

From my rubbish Greek I think the boat yard guy mentioned to leave the fuel standing and the water will sit on top of the petrol.
I could be completely wrong though....I take it after that I syphon off the fuel.

You've got it wrong way round ... the petrol will sit on top of the water.

Make sure container is closed. This will ensure that light-ends of the gasoline will not vapourise away.

It won't take long to settle ... siphon of the petrol leaving a small amount on top of the water ... maybe a mm or so. That way you are sure you have petrol only.
Rest ? Leave container open in safe area and petrol will evaporate of. Then throw away the water.

I take it that the fuel tank is fixed and you can't see into it.
The outlet pipe will come out at the bottom of the tank, so you disconnect there and drain off the water plus a little fuel into a container.
Then drain the rest of the fuel into a clear container, leave to stand then inspect.

PS:
Don't forget to replace filter, bleed pipe to engine and float chamber of carb. Plugs will need a clean as well.

I've actually removed the tank. The outlet to the engine is from the top with an internal pipe to the bottom of the tank, I'm not sure how far down it goes down so I'm going to empty everything into a jerry can.

The good news is if you are siphoning the intake will be in the water so any mouthfull will be water, not petrol, foul, rusty, but still water /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
