Greetings,

Just throwing this out there in case i'm missing something obvious..

My Trader has three separate areas for bilges (with associated pumps). An aft area (galley and aft cabin) with their own pump, the engine room with its own pump, and then the forward 3rd of the boat that consists of the side twin cabin, foreward double cabin and forward heads with shower..
However the forward bilge pump is located a fair degree aft of the lowest point (hence a fair amount of water can settle without the bilge pump actuating) and since there is a convenient crossmember in between the two points, I'm thinking of sealing the front area and adding an additional small bilge pump.. Any obvious issues to this?

All thoughts (within reason) are appreciated..

what if you moved the float actuator switch the the bilge pump so it would kick in earlier ?

Assuming it's one of these pumps that does not have a separate pick up pipe, can you not just relocate the pump to the lower area and adjust the outlet hose accordingly?
Because the lowest area is by the rise of the bow so it's very narrow and the main bilge pump won't fit...

If you separate and that pump fails , could it sink the boat if it filled up.
I don't think so. Worst case scenario is the water would rise over the lowest bulkhead and then start to fill where the main bilge pump is located..
The bottom line is that the current bilge pump which is very big is located on nice flat area of the hull, which unfortunately is higher up than at the deepest bilge point which is just as the bow starts to rise (which is very narrow). So you can get about 30+ litres into the foreward bilge before the water gets high enough to reach the existing bilge pump. (The bilge gets wider as it gets flatter, where the pump sits.)

I'll do a couple of pics when it gets lighter which should make things clearer, so to speak.
