Selling Engines

I have recently re-engined my Sealine 22 with a diesel engine. I have read, in “Motor Boats Monthly”, a number of articles over the years of many owners who have done the same thing. (Although with the looming fuel tax rises perhaps this is not the best time to do it.) I have read of boat owners who have sold their old engines, but I seem to be having some difficulty selling my BMW B220. I have tried ebay and a classified ad in “Buy a Boat” Magazine.
Does anyone on here have any suggestions? (Apart from that one.)

There was a thread a while ago now about buying a boat with a BMW engine. The poster was told in no uncertain terms not to buy a boat with a BMW engine. This came from quite a few people.
I don't know but maybe this is the reason for not being able to sell it, they don't make the best marine engines is the impression I got.

I found that they were very good engines. The only problem was the high cost of spares. That's why i thought someone might want it. In MBM last Decenber someone apparently sold two BMW engines for £1000 each! At the boat show MBM editor, Hugo Andreae, told me it was sold on the internet. Thats why I tried ebay first.

Re:BMW marine units

Can only agree with muchy.Hopefully somebody out there needs a BMW lump to replace his existing one.Boats and outboards is good place to start, but would price em pretty keenly if you want to see the back of them.Use the search option to find out any info posted here on the BMW marine motor, which were badge engineer jobby made by some italian outfit.

Re:BMW marine units

Only the diesels were "badge engineer jobby made by some italian outfit" , VM infact which then became mercruiser when BMW pulled out of the marine market. The petrols were all BMW car derived motors, and were a load of S***e.

All IMHO of course!

Re:BMW marine units

Thanks for the info. I’ll try www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk.You never know it might sell. I found BMW to be a very reliable engine. It never let me down. But parts are very expensive. I don’t think anyone would fit this engine to a boat today but someone with this engine might want a complete set of parts. Many of which I have replaced over the last five years.
