Selling 1979VAT exempt yacht in Italy

I am thinking of selling our tax exempt pre 1985 yacht in Italy. What can I advise any potential purchaser on VAT status. Will it remain 'exempt'. Any advise appreciated.

I hope someone will be along shortly with something more precise, but as I remember it from selling an early 70s Swan, it crucially depends on if you can prove whether she was in the EU at midnight on a certain date in ?? 1992. (Don't ask!) Otherwise it is a question of saying don't know, but unlikely to be a problem.

Google thinks the date is midnight 31 December 1992.
