Played with a cruising chute last season and thought the snuffer would solve all problems----well not quite cos when we hauled it up as a sausage and then tried to pull the snuffer up to free the sail, it jammed; the snuffer material got itself jammed inside the plastic circular mouth. We then took it down the garden and tied it to a tree to test out horizontally and it still happens.
So it will snuff downwards but not upwards.
Anyone with similar problem?? and even a cure ??

This will happen if you get a wrap in the rope inside the snuffer, The only cure is to unwrap off the boat, and lay it out. Then when putting it back into the bag, try to make sure that you dont get any turns in the snuffer bag as it gets stowed in the bag. I havent had any problems with mine since I started to do it this way.

the only time

the autopilot couldn't control the boat was when i was stupid enough to carry the spi around Cape Trafalgar.

On that occasion it was the seas rather than wind force with which it couldn't cope.

In fact you're far more likely to get autopilot trouble on a reach that downwind, tho' I always use a preventer on the main, which reduces the problem of gybing.

I couldn't support your advice - in fact I'd counsel the opposite.
