selden / kemp rod licker

It's almost worth a call to Selden's Marketing department to tell them to get their act together.
Oh yes forgot, you can't unless you can speak Swedish.
UK base will just tell you to talk to one of their dealers who will do nothing.

Oh that is why? I have Selden, with gas spring and only after 4 years it no longers hold the boom up!

Where do I buy the SGS stainless and is it a replacement that fits the selden rodkicker?

Yes the SGS ones are a direct slot in - if you check the existing one and sizes. It was a very quick job when I did mine 5 years ago.
SGS are also great for replacement struts for cockpit lockers etc, if your boat has these. And very fast delivery (under 24 hours last time from keyboard to front door - not Christmas though!)

The bit that has me wondering is the connection of the gas strut to the kicker. Its one thing for those who already have a gas strut equipped kicker to replace the strut but have any of you put a gas strut in a kicker than never previously had one. Its the issue of internal connections, the bits I might need in addition to the strut itself.

Anybody got any photos of the inside of one of these things?

Not the best photo but gives you some idea - of the end fittings, and the rubbish strut that Selden fitted.
Thought I had a picture with the shiny new SGS one beside it - can't find that but having measured the old one it was a direct replacement

I emailed Selden and nothing happened for several weeks. Then I finally had a reply saying that their local agent had one in stock (for around £200+). Good that they treated it as urgent as I did say I'd be leaving UK in a couple of weeks.

I'd bought one from Struts Direct by then. I can't believe how much Selden charge for an inferior product. Their original one had a steel body with stainless strut (earlier post said theirs was stainless body & steel rod). I bought an all stainless model for around £85. I'm certain that SGS and Struts Direct sell similar quality standard items. Not something made specially for the leisure sailing market.
