Seized Engine

I am new to all this so apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge!

I have acquired a 25ft Sundancer with a seized engine and I have a couple of questions which I am really struggling with:

1. What could I expect to be charged to strip and rebuild the engine?
2. Is it worth doing this?
3. If I bought a new engine, what could I expect to pay for its installation?

Thanks in advance,

John

It's a 1995 Mercruiser 5.7 litre, V8, 210hp petrol inboard.

Ahh, lucky we didn't guess as I was thinking diesel. As PCUK says the mobo people might be able to help more and you would maybe get more response on their dedicated forum, we tend to deal with horse powers in the tens rather than hundreds :)

Probably some American grunt car engine marinised - possibly worth finding out the original source, then you may be able to track down an equivalent on the second-hand car market.

MOBO forum is the way to go.

For illustration purposes
Marine 5.7 liter Chevrolet V8 Turn key 270 HP only $4490
at US site http://remanufactured.com/Inboard_Marine_Engines.htm

It depends entirely on why it is seized. If a conrod has made a bid for freedom you need a replacement motor, if it's just rusted up or the crank has snapped it may be repairable. You really need someone who knows his stuff to have a look at it.
