Dear All, I have been sailing most of my life since learning to sail on the Norfolk Broads ( Hickling Broad sailing club - lovely, Waveney and Oulton broad sailing club - lovely and Breydon water- not so lovely ) and later sailing with the Royal Navy at Dartmouth. Sailing has gone with me as i have traveled the word as a professional deep sea diver. I have learnt a lot about nature and environment. I have settled in Kampot, a lovely town on the west coast of Cambodia. There is no active sailing club in Cambodia and I miss sailing very much. There is a large expat community in Kampot and every weekend and holidays we see a large influx of visitors from Phnom Penh. Cambodians love to be on the water but have limited skills or opportunity - we, I and my Cambodian partners, want to establish a sailing club in Kampot and train sailing and water safety ( it is estimated that 5 children drown in Cambodia every day ! )in accordance with RYA and RNLI training schemes but we need advice and support. In Cambodia we have been so lucky, there have been no fatalities due to Covid and no community spread. Cambodian people are super friendly. If you feel that you can help or support, please contact me.

Hi 007, welcome, you may have more luck posting this on scuttlebutt, which is the sailing based forum. Great pic, sounds like a great place to be based.

Yes. Good advice thank you. We will start with dinghies. Cambodia has more than 70 offshore islands, some developed, others not so. Unlike Thailand, yachting has not developed here, which is a big pity but I am sure it will do in future. One issue however, the coastline is shallow and many of the approaches to the island beaches are very shallow so would suit a Cat better and we have no marina as yet but many sheltered bays.

I have a friend who lived in Kampot for several years, and by his accounts it is a lovely place, famous for its pepper. He has now moved back to the Philippines, where we have a mutual friend - an Australian dinghy designer - who has been getting Filipinos into self built dinghies rather successfully.
