Heard of IRC racy types changing sails pretty often and wondered how and where they sold off the old one. Fancy trying a different main - mast is 11.8 x 4.34 loose footed but not FB at present. Any ideas?

I've bought a few used sails for racing dinghies.
I think with yachts there are really not all that many big budget players who change sails before they are knackered.
One boat I was involved with, the new main was kept for the big regattas. The previous one was used forlesser events and if it was windy. The one before that was kept for training and deliveries. A lot of higher budget boats get chartered out sometimes and keep 2nd sails for that.
Some sailmakers have lists of development and used sails for sale. Try the websites of the independent lofts like Batt, Dynamic,

You could try asking at the sail lofts.

One problem is that if you're that keen, you're probably also (1) buying pretty lightweight sails in the first place (2) using them at the top of the wind range with a bunch of fatties on the rail (3) using very specialised sails i.e. very optimised for beating or reaching, but mediocre otherwise.

Love the idea but I would be interested to learn if the cast-offs are actually any good for cruising in practice.

In my experience they mostly go into garages or sheds until the house is sold. Then they are thrown in a skip.

I'd echo the comment that unless your mast happens to be a very good fit for a very high end OD class, you're unlikely to find anything that isn't trashed. I do know that when the Elan 410s first appeared on the scene they were delighted to find that their foretriangle was an exact fit for a Farr 40, which at the time were a very hot OD class and were discarding barely used sails. Lots of very snazzy looking jibs were then found on those Elans.

Your specs look close enough to a HOD 35 that this might work, though might need a bit off the hoist, and there are still a few of them around. Also J105 might work, though would be a tiny bit undersized. Think you're a masthead rig? If so the HOD is likely to be a better shape for you. Give North a call maybe? Think most of the competitive HODs are their customers.
