Second hand MF 645 - Buy now or after Boat Show ?

Evening all

I have a budget of 25K and am looking to buy a used Merry Fisher 645.

Is the general opinion it would be better to wait until after the boat show to buy, where perhaps dealers have taken boats on PX ? Or is it possible that people will be selling now to have cash for a better deal at the boat show ?


Would also be interested on opinions as to why there are so few used Merry Fisher 725's for sale in the UK ? Could quite fancy one of those, but not on 25K unfortunately !!!

I'd hazard a guess that fare like you're suggesting wil have a reasonably consistent turnover throughout the year and wouldn't be very much affected by sibs. I'm not sure there's a best or correct time of year to buy - having said that if you're mobo shopping in the winter you're less likely to allow yourself into a poor deal in an attempt to get out on the water asap.

These boats are really bread and butter stuff for the industry and there never seems to be any shortage, so I would also think prices would be largely unaffected by SIBS. However, in your shoes, unless I had my eye on something local to me (lots to be said for buying locally...) I would go to SIBS and talk to all the various Jeanneau and Beneteau ( Antares 680) reps About my prospective purchase and see what options come up. Great chance to have many potential conversations on one day and who knows what options will present themselves....

Regarding the 725 and lack of numbers, I wonder if it's maybe to do with the fact that many would consider it a little too big to tow and so you would only find them in marinas etc whereas the 645 is a great little trail boat as well as a marina boat so has two markets to sell into...? Just a thought...
