Second Hand Charts

One of the postings last week complained about customer service given by Marine Chart Services, sellers of second hand charts.

Having used them now I would like to comment that I was very happy with the service, the information and the charts supplied and would recommend them to anyone.

A point to note - most of the charts they supply are rolled charts which remain valid for long periods of time, unlike small craft editions which are cancelled and replaced every year, probably to maximise profits by the Admiralty. The validity of a chart may have legal implications in case of an incident or an insurance claim.

In response to the somewhat incorrect 'complaint' - from a few days ago - made about our services, by one of our customers, the points he forgot to mention were that:-
1) He ordered his charts - with despatch from us within 5 days of his order - just before he went on holiday for 3 weeks.
2) He did not tell us - in the space provided on the order page - that he was going to be away for 3 weeks
3) Our carriers - UPS - tried to deliver on 3 or 4 occasions, and left notes to that effect on each visit. Having been unable to deliver the goods after 7 days, they were - quite rightly - returned back to us.
4) On this persons return, he made lots of 'noise' about how poor our service was, but failed to admit how foolish he was in placing his order and then going away for 3 weeks.
5) His first order qualified him for a free gift. The details for that gift clearly state that it must be ordered on line. He chose not to do this. He then complained when the gift (that he didnt order) did not arrive.

Marine Chart Services supply clients all over the world - both leisure and commercial. Our skills in customer service are equal to - or better than - many other firms. Like everyone else, we are not perfect. However, we have an excellent record and numerous letters complimenting us on our excellent services. However, there is always one person who thinks they know best.

I have dealt with chart services , they are very efficient and helpful and very competetive on price .
I've noted when posts have requested where to get charts, chart services have been the first to be recommended.

I think that they are great as well. I got a very fast turnaround on a chart the other day !
